Start with foods that fit the required life stage and purpose. Cost is a separate comparison, not a nutrition score. Our budget filter only includes a food when its current standard offer and calculation inputs support the comparison.
Compare the energy you buy
The site calculates package energy as package kilograms multiplied by declared kcal per kilogram. Standard package price divided by package energy, then multiplied by 1,000, gives dollars per 1,000 kcal. The calculation uses the exact formulation linked to the offer.
For a simple arithmetic example, an imaginary 10 kg package at $40 containing 3,500 kcal/kg holds 35,000 kcal. It costs about $1.14 per 1,000 kcal. This is an illustration of the formula, not a catalog product or an observed price.
Use one daily assumption
In the comparison table, daily cost is dollars per 1,000 kcal multiplied by the selected daily kcal and divided by 1,000. Monthly cost uses 30 days. At 700 kcal/day, the arithmetic example above is about $0.80/day or $24 for 30 days. Your dog's individual requirement is not established by this tool.
Changing the daily assumption changes every compared food on the same basis. It does not change the price per 1,000 kcal. Your veterinarian can help determine an appropriate feeding target; package instructions are a starting reference rather than a personalized prescription.
Keep offers comparable
Our standard-cost summary selects the lowest eligible standard cost in the recorded offers. Subscription and introductory deals are displayed separately. An expired observation, unavailable stock, missing calories, a formulation mismatch or conflicting price/nutrition data prevents a current feeding-cost claim.
A listed package size without a supported price remains useful identity information, but its feeding cost stays unknown. Unknown is not zero. A strict budget filter therefore removes records with no eligible cost instead of guessing.
Check what the estimate omits
Delivery charges, tax, loyalty rewards, food waste and the cost of treats or toppers are outside this comparison. Check the seller's current terms before purchasing. Compare practical factors such as package size and storage space after the cost arithmetic.
